Chief Executive Officer, Nev Power, will again host an aspiring Aboriginal leader as CEO for a Day for the release of Fortescue's March quarterly results. Inspired by GenerationOne’s national competition, this is the fifth time a chosen candidate has had the opportunity to work with Mr Power and see firsthand how the business operates at the highest level.
The latest CEO for a Day is Rowena Roberts who works as Superintendent Aboriginal Development at Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine site. Rowena works with Fortescue’s Aboriginal employees to identify their strengths and to develop solid career pathways beyond purely operational roles. She has helped more than 350 local Aboriginal people on their journey from unemployment to becoming valuable members of the Fortescue workforce.
Speaking ahead of the release of the quarterly results, Mr Power said, “At Fortescue, we believe it is critically important to support the next generation of Aboriginal leaders. By helping aspiring Aboriginal people challenge the status quo and take positive steps towards becoming our future business leaders, we are making a positive impact on Aboriginal communities.”
“Rowena is a leader at Fortescue and a role model for her community. Her passion and commitment to generational change in Aboriginal communities is evident in her work and tireless contribution to the lives and career opportunities for our Aboriginal workforce,” Mr Power said.
Having worked for a number of companies and Aboriginal organisations, Rowena says she has never experienced a company with so many meaningful and life-changing programs that encourage and support people to excel and be the best they can be.
“Fortescue’s commitment to helping Aboriginal people with a hand up, not a hand out, is genuine and flows from the top. Nev and the Executive team genuinely care about people and making a real difference in our Aboriginal communities,” Rowena said.
With senior leadership aspirations for her career at Fortescue, Rowena is honoured to have had the opportunity to shadow Mr Power for one of the company’s busiest days of the year.
“I believe in what this company stands for and I’m proud of being a part of it. I’ve got my sights set on continuing to expand my career with Fortescue and today’s opportunity is another step in that direction,” Rowena said.
